Lacrosse is played with a stick that has a small net pocket on the end. Players catch, carry and pass a rubber ball, working together to shoot it into the other team's goal.
It's fast, it's active, and everybody gets their hands on the ball. Kids who play soccer, basketball or hockey usually pick it up quickly, and kids who have never played any sport do great too.
Our coaches focus on the fundamentals: catching, throwing, scooping up ground balls, and being a good teammate.

We play
with ROOTS.
Dover Youth Lacrosse was founded in 2009 to give Dover kids a place to play built on honesty, respect, integrity and good sportsmanship. We call it ROOTS, and it guides us on and off the field.
It takes a whole community.
We're 100% volunteer-run. Every coach, board member and snack-table hero is a neighbor who decided to help.
Parent coaches are the heart of our program. You don't need to have played lacrosse to help kids learn and have fun.

Parent questions
Does my child need any experience?
Not at all. Most of our players are beginners, and our coaches teach everything from how to hold the stick.
What does it cost?
A player's first year is free. You only pay the $35 USA Lacrosse membership. Returning players pay $90 to $175 depending on age group (see the fee table above). Payment plans are available.

Please don't buy anything before talking to us. We have rentals so your player can try it first.
How much time does it take each week?
Teams practice twice a week, plus games, from early February to mid-May. Exact days and times will be shared before the season starts, and schedules are posted on TeamSnap.
Do parents have to volunteer?
We ask each family to help in two ways. Every bit of help keeps costs low for all our families.
- Volunteer: pitch in during the season, or choose the $25 volunteer buyout.
- Fundraising: raise at least $25 through our fundraisers, or choose the $25 fundraising buyout.
